Our History

All Saints' Episcopal Church is a community of faith rooted in the love of God. We believe worship is not just found in prayer, it’s something expressed in everything we do. Here at All Saints, our mission is to be an all-inclusive faithful community and stewards of God's will and gifts to have a positive influence on all we touch.

The Anglican presence on the Outer Banks of North Carolina began in 1587 with the establishment of the first English settlement on Roanoke Island. The original All Saints’ Church was founded in Nags Head in 1849, but was dismantled after the Civil War.

St. Andrew’s-by-the-Sea was constructed in 1916, and in 1995, All Saints’ Mission was established. With the leadership of Margaret Shepard, the church grew, and a new building was completed in 2000. After various leadership changes, Reverend Thomas E. Wilson became the Rector in 2003 and retired in 2018. Robert Davenport was then called as interim rector in September 2018.

In the autumn of 2019, we were blessed to have the Reverend Cynthia Simpson accept the Vestry’s call to become the most recent Rector of All Saints. She served this parish from October 13, 2019 through February 18, 2024.
